My Creative Space today - A Necklace in the Making...

For a while now I've been wanting to create something that combines leather tubing and wire and I've batted around a few ideas mostly around bracelets and rings (which now I'm on to the buzz may be next week's mission!).

Yesterday, I finally settled on a design for a pendant/necklace incorporating a blue crazy lace Agate oval, blue feldspar round, swarovski crystals, and some beautiful deep teal leather tubing I found in a little bead shop (think it was called 'The Bead Bar'?) in The Rocks, Sydney while on holiday there last year.

I started with these ingredients

then wondered if I should go with lighter pieces to contrast with the darker leather

or darker gemstones

I went with the lighter.
I have to say it's challenging me to be working with long bits of wire and leather without getting in a complete tangle!

I'm really going with the flow with this piece and not planning too far ahead what the end result is going to be, but I do know the felspar round will dangle from the bottom loop and I'm hoping the rest will come to me as I go!
Watch this space for a finished pic here hopefully later today!

  3. Wow, Mel, it's so interesting to see how you make things. Thank you for taking the time to photograph and share! What a beautiful colour, I love that you use such vibrant colours in your work - people wear far too much black in New Zealand and it's lovely to team it up with some eye catching jewellery such as yours. My sister would love this pendant! :)

  4. Thanks Louise, funny thing - I often think I wear black to much (it's also my work uniform colour), even if it's shoes, so the other day I made a conscious effort not to - it was quite liberating!
