My Creative Space - Something for a Friend

Labradorite is such a beautiful gemstone - a real treasure of a power stone which is said to stimulate imagination, develop enthusiasm and new ideas, and aid clear sight in meditation.  First officially discovered in 1770 on the Labrador Peninsula in Canada. It is also found in Norway, and the former USSR.

Enough of the history lesson!  This particular piece with it's amazing transluscent and iridescent qualities was handed to me by my friend Ingrid, with the request that I wire-wrap it in some way so that it could be worn as a pendant.  I later discovered that Ingrid (a stone sculptor and jewellery designer) had shaped, ground and polished the stone herself from it's original raw form!

We agreed on black wire being the best frame colour for the stone and Ingrid wanted 'simple' yet different, so a simple needle-lace/viking knit style bezel, with thicker than I would usually use wire gauge, and a horizontal setting were the go.

She is very happy with the finished pendant and I am still marvelling at the beauty of the stone!

Did you Know?   Fine Emeralds were believed to be good for the eyes and engravers used to use them to stare into when their eyes grew fatigued..
