A New Zealand Christmas Icon..

I feel a jewellery creation coming on based on these!

With kids now on holiday so no school run, and down to one car last week, I had occasion to walk to work the scenic route and was AMAZED by the colour of the flowering Pohutakawa trees everywhere I went.
How lucky we are to have this beautiful native tree, the unofficial 'Christmas Tree' of New Zealand. Needless to say, today I took my camera!
Red to left of me

Red in front of me (even on the lamposts and a carpet of red on the road)

Red behind me!

Wishing you all Nga mihi o te Kirihimete me TeTau Hou (A Merry Christmas and a happy New Year). My best wishes for a wonderfully relaxing time spent with friends and family..... see you on the other side of 2010!

  5. They look beautiful Mel! The Pohutukawas were only just beginning to flower when we left NZ at the beginning of December, and will be over when we get back so it's lovely to see these photos. Makes me feel a little home sick! lol!
